Part of physiotherapy and osteopathy in which manual techniques are applied.
This is a specific area of physiotherapy which is aimed at disorders of the neuro-musculo-skeletal system and is based on clinical reasoning, assessments and specific treatment techniques, including manual techniques and therapeutic exercises. Manual therapy is based on available scientific and clinical evidence and adapted to the patient’s bio-psychosocial profile.
The techniques used include, among others, joint mobilisations, gentle manipulations, stretching techniques, mobilisation techniques, deep transverse friction, treatment of ‘trigger points’ in the muscular system.
In relation to sports-related injuries
The manual therapist can remove blockages and stabbing pain. The manual therapist looks for the cause of problems in the neuro-musculo-skeletal system and, in the case of a reversible disease, ensures that a solution is found.
